Inserting Reddit comments in a blog post

Is the Reddit widget a good alternative, or at least a good complement to built-in or third-party commenting platforms (Gravatar, Disqus, IntenseDebate, LiveFyre, Facebook)?

Lets experiment.

I set up a reddit called altbin and posted a thread with the URL of this blog post, and then I embed it here.
I basically just added “.embed” to the thread’s URL and used the embed code:

Comment on this blog post on Reddit:

<script src=”http://www.reddit.com/r/altbin/comments/2aoccb/inserting_reddit_comments_in_a_blog_post.embed” type=”text/javascript”></script>

You can also turn CSS off but then it starts to look messy.

Criticism:

  • You can’t click on it easily to participate
  • The tree view is not very visible, it’s hard to see who is replying to who

Another widget than the official one is made by RedditJS.com
This widget is beautiful, and what the official widget should look like, unfortunality is asks you read/write access to your account’s and I don’t like that.

Let’s ask /r/blogging what they think about it:
